My grandma died on the 4th of April, 2023. I still can’t believe it fr. When I heard, I was shocked, my mom was in a lot of pain and there was nothing I could do.
This woman was referred to as Mama soldier as her husband, my grandfather is a retired military man. Grandma was sooo blunt, she was never one to mince words. She was calm, so calm.
I visited her three weeks before she passed and she was telling me stories about how she traded in kaduna basically narrating my mom and her siblings childhood to me.
She had her shop in front of her house and she also sold provisions and was famous in her neighborhood. Every time we “bought” something from her shop she’ll yell..
“E tun sanwo oja ti e ra”
I’ll just run as fast as my legs can take me. I know my grandpa will end up paying for us😂. Regardless of us taking her biscuits on credit she’ll still tell us that everything she’s doing is for us her grandchildren 🥹.
Mama was always joking about her dying and said she didn’t want any party and nobody should pick any Ankara. She would rather they buy it when she’s alive than dead.
She was a Muslim and so she was buried almost immediately after she passed. Since she didn’t want any party, they planned her final funeral on her 8 day firdau ceremony and it went on smoothly.
Yoruba people will definitely Yoruba regardless sha😂. The food drama was even funny, if grandma was here she would’ve probably shouted
“she e je Jollofu ri ni”
The fact that I wouldn’t take her abroad to enjoy life hurts so very much. I miss her, but my baby is most likely chilling with the most high.
Thank you for reading
Love,
